If you've been waiting for the Xiaomi Mi Max phablet to arrive, well, yes, it finally has.
6.44in display for those who like it large
The Xiaomi phablet is as big as it gets with its Full HD 6.44in display, though the phone still manages to fit in a 4850mAh battery as well as an ultra-thin 7.5mm chassis.
Running it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 paired with 3GB RAM. Xiaomi is only selling the 32GB variant here though, which supports microSD cards up to 128GB.
As for the camera it has a 16MP PDAF rear camera and a 5MP front camera, fingerprint recognition as well as support for LTE and dual-SIMs. There's no NFC on it though or Type-C, just regular micro-USB.
Despite support for Quick Charge 3.0, the phone however does not include a Quick Charge 3.0 capable charger with the package.
It's a pity the 4GB/64GB RAM version isn't selling here, and with its huge screen, the Mi Max might have a limited appeal. Perhaps more for people who can't decide whether they should get a tablet in addition to a phone, this might be a nice combo in one package.
Complaints from Malaysian customers that stocks for a lot of Xiaomi products from the official website have been increasing, however. It's unclear why Xiaomi is preferring to concentrate its retail efforts via distributors or Lazada instead of its own website. Whether that will change anytime soon is anyone's guess.
The phone will be available via telcos Celcom and Yes, as well as on Lazada and via distributor Thorus for RM999.
