Another day, another MVNO it seems. speakOUT, which has apparently been around since 2011 specialises in prepaid services and yesterday unveiled new packages as well as an image facelift.
speakOUT’s offerings are divided by market: one starter pack for locals, the other starter pack for tourists. That is rather interesting and as to why it’s specialising in prepaid, in Malaysia prepaid services are still very much in demand
The resident starter pack costs RM16 and offers a preloaded talktime of just RM2, but has 500MB of data, valid for 30 days. Should a user exceed the quota, the speed will be throttled to 64kbps. You can fix that by topping up with speakOUT’s Internet Booster.
As for the Tourist prepaid pack, for RM50 it’s RM5 worth of talktime and 100GB of high speed data…but only valid for 7 days.
The company is also planning to launch another prepaid plan soon, called the Buddies plan and is also following U Mobile’s lead in offering device bundles. The devices, however, are more on the cheaper low-end side with five mobile phones on offer so far with the highest end device being the ZTE Blade.
Riding on DiGi’s network, users can expect to be able to get coverage and LTE wherever DiGi has it. The only question is how speakOUT will convince users to signup for its packages instead of, oh, just getting a prepaid pack from DiGi.
Apart from Malaysia, speakOUT also lists four other countries it operates/plans to operate in: Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. The links to those countries’ websites were not working at presstime but we suppose it’ll just be a matter of time.
For reloads, speakOUT topups will be available at 7-11 outlets, much like most prepaid carriers. For more information on device bundles, visit the website.
