Asus giving up on smartwatches

The latest ZenWatches are still getting the Android Wear update

Alas, it looks as though Android Wear wasn't enough to save Android smartwatches.

Android might go high-fashion

Samsung has decided to concentrate on Tizen as a smartwatch platform instead, while Motorola is putting off any new Android smartwatches indefinitely.

Apparently Asus sells only around 5000 to 6000 units of smartwatches a month, which means that producing any more watches doesn't seem feasible especially as this is the third iteration of its ZenWatch line.

Still, if you do have the latest ZenWatch 3, apparently the Android Wear update is rolling out to the watch, making it even more of a bargain. The ZenWatch series offer some of the best price points where Android smartwatches are concerned with a pretty decent featureset and design.

Android might not die on the watch, however, as brands such as Fossil are increasingly introducing their own smartwatches. Perhaps fashion brands can move Android smartwatches better than tech brands? At this rate, though, Apple and Samsung might end up being the only dedicated tech brands still making smartwatches.
