It allows the user to control functions of his or her Audi vehicle: the door can be unlocked via NFC, for instance. It won&rsquo;t yet let you call your self-driving Audi back to you &ndash; but that&rsquo;s something that can be added in the future, eh?</p> <p>The watch seems to have its own cellular phone signal, which suggests you&rsquo;ll be able to make calls directly from it, without the need for a paired smartphone, and its backplate reveals that it&rsquo;s water resistant and constructed of stainless steel and sapphire crystal. There&rsquo;s also a &ldquo;Sounds&rdquo; setting in the menu, which hints at the presence of a built-in speaker &ndash; something Android Wear watches don&rsquo;t have.</p> <p>This watch is a prototype, so we should stress that there&rsquo;s no evidence that it&rsquo;ll launch in MY, or indeed at all &ndash; but if not it&rsquo;s certainly likely to influence future smartwatches. Well, maybe &ldquo;beast&rdquo; isn&rsquo;t the right word.</p> <p>To be fair, this device from Japanese telecom company KDDI and manufacturer LG won&rsquo;t compete with typical flagships: it has a 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5GB RAM behind that 4.7in display, albeit with a respectable 2,370mAh battery. But it brings things like LTE and NFC to the Firefox fold, which were enabled by the latest OS update.</p> <p>More interestingly, it&rsquo;s a striking device - similar in general shape to other LG handsets like the G3 and Nexus 5, but shrunk down and quite obviously made a translucent gold colour. Just check out the Firefox logo on the home button, along with the glimpses at what&rsquo;s inside. The device is pricier than most Firefox options at 50,000 yen (about RM1455), and while the Fx0 may never find its way to other international carriers, its existence a good sign for the future expansion of the OS beyond the budget ranks.</p> <p>[Source:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/23/7440079/fx0-firefox-os-smartphone-specs-release-date-photos">The Verge</a>]</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Star Trek 3 hits cinemas in 2016 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>A third entry in the&nbsp;<em>Star Trek</em>&nbsp;film reboot franchise seemed inevitable, but after J.J. The phone basically can create a simple local area network by connecting with other Fx0s. Pretty neat. It is currently also the first and only Firefox OS phone to have 4G LTE.</p> <p>Other things of note - it also comes with Japanese text support, thanks to a collaboration with Omron software. Now this would be a nice souvenir to bring home from Japan, if you can get a hold of it. It will be sold in limited quantities in KDDI stores and online from Dec 25 onwards, with full release happening Jan 6 next year. The price has yet to be announced. We&#39;re guessing it&#39;ll hover somewhere around the mid-tier range of Android phones.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: </strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/jolla/jollas-first-tablet-smashes-crowdfunding-target/news" target="_blank">Jolla&#39;s Sailfish tablet is a crowdfunding hit</a></p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://news.kddi.com/kddi/corporate/english/newsrelease/2014/12/23/844.html" target="_blank">KDDI</a>]</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Firefox OS comes to Japan in a shiny, blingy LG-made package" alt="Firefox OS comes to Japan in a shiny, blingy LG-made package" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/firefox%20phone%2001_0.jpg?1419400563" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/firefox-os/firefox-os-comes-japan-shiny-blingy-lg-made-package/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/my/firefox-os/firefox-os-comes-japan-shiny-blingy-lg-made-package/news#comments Firefox OS LG Smartphones Wed, 24 Dec 2014 05:54:48 +0000 Erna Mahyuni 1456044 at http://www.stuff.tv Fully Charged: LG’s quantum dot LCD TV revealed, Grand Theft Auto Online’s free heists coming soon, and Apple prevails in iTunes lawsuit http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/fully-charged-lg-s-quantum-dot-lcd-tv-revealed-grand-theft-auto-online-s-free-heists-detailed- <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Wake up, rub the sleep from your eyes, and load up on the morning’s top tech news </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="LG&#039;s Quantum Dot LCD TV" alt="LG&#039;s Quantum Dot LCD TV" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/lg-tv-quantum-dot.jpg?1418865800" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/my/users/andrew-hayward" title="View user profile.">Andrew Hayward</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> LG announces quantum dot LCD TV for CES </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>What&rsquo;s the next big trend in televisions? Check out the trailer above, and get ready for Heists to arrive sometime in early 2015 on all platforms.</p> <p>[Source:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/16/grand-theft-auto-5-online-heists-finally-revealed">IGN</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/grand-theft-auto-5/grand-theft-auto-v-ps4-and-xbox-one/review">Grand Theft Auto V PS4 and Xbox One review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper youtube-player-wrapper"> <iframe width="640" height="385" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UDd3pTE8UsQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Apple prevails in iTunes lawsuit </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Over the last couple weeks, we&rsquo;ve heard bits and pieces about Apple&rsquo;s defense of iTunes in a class action lawsuit filed in the United States nine years ago. In fact, even Steve Jobs testified - via recorded testimony video from before his death. But the courtroom proceedings have concluded, and Apple was found not liable in the suit.</p> <p>The complaint arose from issues of incompatibility between iTunes and music released on some other services several years ago, but lawyers representing the group (of some 8 million people who bought particular iPods between 2006-2009) struggled to produce viable plaintiffs after all these years.</p> <p>Ultimately, the jury decided that iTunes 7.0&rsquo;s security upgrades represented a &ldquo;genuine product improvement&rdquo; back in 2006, and no damages were awarded. However, the plaintiff&rsquo;s group plans to file an appeal, so this could well drag on again for some time to come.</p> <p>[Source:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/16/7402695/jury-decision-in-iTunes-iPod-DRM-case">The Verge</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/apple-iphone-6/review">iPhone 6 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="iPod Classic" alt="iPod Classic" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/ipod-classic.png?1418865800" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Latest Assassin’s Creed Unity patch released </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>It&rsquo;s a day later than expected, but the latest big patch for&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/assassins-creed-unity/review"><em>Assassin&rsquo;s Creed Unity</em></a>&nbsp;is now live on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and will hit PC later this week. The patch is another significant one, this time replacing and updating large chunks of the Paris city map where players experienced performance issues.</p> <p>That explains the 6.7GB patch size, but if you&rsquo;re on Xbox One, there&rsquo;s a chance that you&rsquo;ll see a 40GB download instead. Ubisoft says it&rsquo;s an error that sees the entire game being re-downloaded and installed, and although it requires a lot more bandwidth, the game still works fine when complete. Still, Ubisoft is working with Microsoft to address the issue.</p> <p>[Source:&nbsp;<a href="http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-US/community/liveupdates/live_updates_details.aspx?c=tcm:152-188856-16&amp;ct=tcm:148-76770-32">Ubisoft</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/assassins-creed-unity/free-dlc-offered-botched-assassin-s-creed-unity-launch-while-season-pass-buyer">Free DLC offered for botched Assassin&rsquo;s Creed Unity launch, while Season Pass buyers get a free game</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Assassin&#039;s Creed Unity" alt="Assassin&#039;s Creed Unity" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/assassins-creed-unity-01.jpg?1418865800" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/fully-charged-lg-s-quantum-dot-lcd-tv-revealed-grand-theft-auto-online-s-free-heists-detailed-#comments Apple Assassin's Creed Unity Gaming Grand Theft Auto 5 iTunes LG TVs Thu, 18 Dec 2014 01:00:00 +0000 Tein Hee Seow 1455627 at http://www.stuff.tv In the 4K TV arms race, LG is going to make a quantum leap with, well, quantum dots http://www.stuff.tv/my/lg/4k-tv-arms-race-lg-going-make-quantum-leap-well-quantum-dots/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> LG will showcase the TV of the future at CES 2015 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="567" height="425" title="In the 4K TV arms race, LG is going to make a quantum leap with, well, quantum dots" alt="In the 4K TV arms race, LG is going to make a quantum leap with, well, quantum d" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/LG%204K%20Ultra%20.jpg?1418782664" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>It&rsquo;s not even the start of the new year yet, but LG has already started its battle cry for its next wave of 4K TVs.</p> <p>A bid to drum up some attention for its new 4K TV, we suspect, but for what it&rsquo;s worth, the new LG 4K ULTRA HD TV will feature a piece of panel tech called quantum dot technology.
