But while it doesn&#39;t share the pristine, minimal look of the 360, it&#39;s not unattractive.</p> <p>There&#39;s an outer dial which displays the minutes, a crown on the side which doubles as an on/off button and also accesses the settings menu, and a fairly big bezel. In other words it looks like a modern diving watch rather than a smartwatch.</p> <p>In the hands, the G Watch R looks and feels like, well, a watch. It&#39;s lighter than its metal construction would suggest, however, which does take some getting used to.&nbsp; As with the Moto 360, the R might be a little too large for those with smaller wrists, but we didn&#39;t feel that it was overly massive during the short time we were wearing it.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Classy" alt="LG G Watch R hands-on review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9985_1.JPG?1410228478" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Looks bigger than it feels on the wrist" alt="LG G Watch R hands-on review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9992.JPG?1410228478" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>As far as the strap goes, there&#39;ll initially be just the one in-the-box option available, namely a&nbsp;calf-leather effort which feels sturdy and light and which should comfortably wrap around skinny and large wrists alike. The G Watch R plays nice with any standard 22mm watch strap too, letting you switch up your style whenever you fancy.</p> <p>LG was keen to point out that a combination of different straps and screens can be used for different scenarios. For instance, you could slap on a rubber strap before a hike, then use the G Watch R&#39;s hiking watch face, which shows off elevation, steps taken and a compass. There are other such examples, and obviously you can mix and match as you see fit.</p> <p>Sadly, the unit we spent time with was in demo mode, so we were only able to test out the classic watch face.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Mmmm, leather" alt="LG G Watch R hands-on review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9988_3.JPG?1410228478" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The rear of the device houses a heart-rate sensor for fitness and activity tracking, along with metal charging pins which are required to charge the watch using a separate cradle.</p> <p>Unlike the Moto 360 there&#39;s no wireless charging option, which LG told us was due to design constraints. The G Watch R is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 innards, 512MB RAM and 4GB of onboard storage and appears to handle Android Wear with ease. That said, you&#39;ll have to wait for our full review unit for a final verdict.</p> <p>GPS is a notable absentee here - a shame, as its inclusion would&#39;ve meant you could track your runs without needing a smartphone. LG told us this was due to battery constraints, which we suppose is fair enough (we were told that the G Watch R won&#39;t last more than two days as it is), but again, we&#39;re keeping our fingers crossed for GPS functionality in future iterations.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/google/android-wear/review" target="_blank">Android Wear review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Handy info at a glance" alt="LG G Watch R hands-on review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9993_1.JPG?1410228478" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Message notifications" alt="LG G Watch R hands-on review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9982_0.JPG?1410228478" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Initial Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The G Watch R is easily one of the best looking Android smartwatches we&#39;ve seen, although overall we still prefer the minimalist design of the Moto 360.</p> <p>Still, we applaud LG for designing a watch first, smart device second, which is exactly the order in which things should be done, given how important build and appearance are for wearable devices.</p> <p>Its crisp, bright circular screen impressed us during the time we spent with it, and the customisation options offered by the different watch faces and straps give it reasonable flexibility. Other Android phones can be used with the standard Google Now command phrase. The Hint can even work with Siri on iPhones although this isn&rsquo;t completely touchless. There&rsquo;s a small capacitive touch area on the Hint that iPhone users will have to tap to activate the iPhone&rsquo;s voice assistant.</p> <p>The battery life isn&rsquo;t great - 3.3 hours for the Hint itself with an extra two charges in the neat charging case that Motorola is launching alongside the accessory. Plus IR sensors provide extra cleverness to extend the battery life as it turns itself on and off. The sensors can detect when you push the Moto Hint into your ear (which requires a bit of twisting to get it snug) or take it out.</p> <p>We tried sticking a Moto Hint in our ear at the Chicago launch event - it was too big for our tiny ears but there&rsquo;s three different sizes of buds. But we weren&rsquo;t able to test it out ourselves just yet &ndash; check back for our hands-on impressions as soon as we can prise one from Motorola&#39;s hands. We said Moto Hint is from the future &ndash; and we weren&rsquo;t joking.</p> <p>There are no concrete details on when it will come to the UK and Europe but Motorola has put the timeframe as &lsquo;in the coming months&rsquo;.&nbsp;We&#39;re hoping it hits Asia shortly after.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/moto-x-2014/review" target="_blank">Motorola Moto X Performance from the phone&rsquo;s 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 and 1GB of RAM was generally very smooth with nary a hiccup. Everything looked great while we were going through the phone&rsquo;s various features, and while the 5-in screen is only HD at 1280x720, it still looked decent, with clarity and brightness that held up to scrutiny. </p> <p>The user experience on Windows Phone 8.1 itself remained largely similar too, though Microsoft has added the ability to organise your Live Tiles into folders for the first time. A simple drag-and-drop affair, it&rsquo;s something that should&rsquo;ve been added from the start, but it&rsquo;s good to finally see something we&rsquo;ve had on Android and iOS devices for years already.</p> <p>The device is also equipped with LTE, Nokia Rich Recording with Dolby 5.1 surround sound capture, and active noise cancellation, though we didn&rsquo;t really have an opportunity to try those out properly in an actual setting. As opposed to the Lumia 930, starting up the camera from standby to an actual snap is much, much faster now, with the lag time between shots pared down to mere milliseconds. It&rsquo;s definitely a much-needed improvement to the shooting experience.</p> <p dir="ltr">Images shot with the camera were bright and sharp, with decent levels of saturation, white balance, and dynamic range. It&rsquo;s not as good as what you can find on a Lumia 930 or even a 1020, but the improvements to performance more than make up for it.</p> <p dir="ltr">We also tried out the phone&rsquo;s 4K video recording capabilities. Microsoft tells us that this feature isn&rsquo;t meant so much for shooting actual movies, but for better Moment Capture, allowing you to select the best moments as individual 8MP pictures. Essentially, the phone will use too much power and overheat during extended 4K recording, just like on any other phone, so their emphasis is on generating better continuous shots. The camera shoots 4K at 24fps, giving us a wide range of images to choose from, and from what we saw, each individual frame was indeed pretty detailed.</p> <p>The front-facing camera on the other hand, is a paltry 1MP affair that&rsquo;s only capable of 720p videos. Maybe that&rsquo;s why the Lumia Selfie app (read more about it in the Lumia 730 hands-on review here) skips the front camera altogether, prompting the user to listen to audio cues while pointing the rear camera at their faces instead. We don&rsquo;t expect the front camera to be great, but 1MP sounds almost prehistoric in this day and age.&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="The new PureView camera" alt="Nokia Lumia 830 hands-on " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/WP_20140522_18_13_52_Pro_0_0.jpg?1409887311" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Wireless charging and screen mirroring </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">Also announced during Microsoft&rsquo;s MoreLumia event were a new Smart Wireless Charging Plate and Screen Sharing solution that were pretty cool when used with the Lumia 830. </p> <p>Available at just USD$59 (RM190), The Nokia Smart Wireless Charger is almost an essential to get for your Lumia. The coaster also magnetically integrates very nicely for storage on the adapter itself. A 5MP wide-angle affair of 24mm, it&rsquo;s even capable of full HD 1080p videos. Microsoft&rsquo;s even thrown in three months of free Skype worldwide subscription for people to try it in real-world scenarios. True, other phones such as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/htc/htc-one-2/review">HTC One M8 </a>and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/oppo-n1/review">Oppo N1 </a>have put large-sensor cameras on the front for better selfies before, but this time Microsoft&rsquo;s even built an entire app around selfies to make them better. &nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr">Very simply named &ldquo;Lumia Selfie&rdquo;, the app and camera combine to shoot selfies that aren&rsquo;t just better in quality, they&rsquo;ve got a larger field of view too. Images taken on the front camera are some of the best we&rsquo;ve seen from a narcissistic perspective, while a demo during the MoreLumia event highlighted that the phone could comfortably fit over 11 people in one picture. ]</p> <p dir="ltr">What&rsquo;s more, Microsoft has done something very Japanese/Korean and added photo editing tools to enhance your facial features. That includes being able to alter your eyes, smile, teeth, and even smooth out wrinkles. It&rsquo;s almost like digital plastic surgery.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the rear shooter is a 6.7MP unit with an LED flash, but since the Lumia 735 isn&rsquo;t privy to the Lumia Camera app found in Microsoft&rsquo;s flagship devices, isn&rsquo;t anywhere near as good as that in the Lumia 830. The fact that it isn&rsquo;t a PureView camera doesn&rsquo;t help, but at this price, there&rsquo;s no cause for complaint. Image quality in general is acceptable, though we didn&rsquo;t really have much opportunity to test it fully. Without those features, the Lumia 735 does feel like a budget phone, though it does have Cortana in the selected markets. </p> <p dir="ltr">Also, since it&rsquo;s got the same processor and all, performance in terms of user experience is practically identical. Besides the difference in build material and the cameras, other areas the phones differ are a smaller internal memory of just 8GB &ndash; though the SD card slot with storage expandable to 128GB should render that largely irrelevant &ndash; a 4.7-in HD 1280x720 screen compared to a 5-incher, and a battery with 20mAh more at 2220mAh. </p> <p>It&rsquo;s all quite minor, so there&rsquo;s really almost no disparity in performance. There&rsquo;s even a pop-up flash.</p> <p>The sensor has 20.1MP, but it&rsquo;s its physical size that should excite photographers, because it means less noise in shots, as well as making it easier to have a pretty defocussed background (aka <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/stuffs-guide-photography-what-bokeh-and-how-do-i-get-it/feature">&ldquo;bokeh&rdquo;</a>).</p> <p>We&rsquo;ve managed to get our hands on a pre-release QX1, and it&rsquo;s an exciting device for anyone who wants to get the best quality shots using their phone. It says this&rsquo;ll make it easier to view and control the data that devices like the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk have accrued. Lifelog is also available <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.lifelog&amp;hl=en" target="_blank">as an Android app</a>, which can be fed data via NFC or Bluetooth.</p> <p>Pricing for the new wearables is yet to be confirmed, but Sony says both the SmartBand Talk and SmartWatch 3 will be on sale in the next three months.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/mwc-2014/hands-sonys-life-logging-smartband-swr10-fitness-band/feature">Hands on with Sony&rsquo;s life-logging SmartBand SWR10 fitness band</a></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-smartband-talk_0.jpg?1409796866" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/ifa-2014/sony-adds-smartband-talk-and-android-wear-smartwatch-3-its-smartwear-experience-rang-0" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/ifa-2014/sony-adds-smartband-talk-and-android-wear-smartwatch-3-its-smartwear-experience-rang-0#comments Android Wear IFA 2014 Sony Wearable tech Wed, 03 Sep 2014 14:55:33 +0000 Hafizah Osman 1446520 at http://www.stuff.tv Sony Xperia Z3 Compact hands-on http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/sony-xperia-z3-compact/review <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Sony&#039;s &quot;no compromise&quot; That means the screen is bigger than that of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/iphone-5s/review">iPhone 5s</a>&nbsp;and almost matches the 4.7in display on the original <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/android/htc-one/review">HTC One</a>. But it&#39;s all about dimensions. Put simply, you can hold this comfortably in one hand, even if said hand is tinier than average.&nbsp;</p> <p>Build-wise, the Z3 Compact puts most Android smartphones to shame.&nbsp;Sure, the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/htc/htc-one-mini-2-hands/review">HTC One Mini 2</a> has a curved aluminium body but its insides don&#39;t exactly match its outsides. And most other scaled-down handsets stick to plastic, big bezels and telltale signs of corner cutting.&nbsp;</p> <p>Not so here.&nbsp;</p> <p>While Sony&#39;s decided to drop the metal frame from the Z3 Compact, it still looks and feels beautifully well made.&nbsp; The all-glass rear is present, as are the love-it-or-loathe-it aluminium power button and shallow volume rocker. The dedicated camera button returns and apart from a few minor tweaks - the LED flash has been moved slightly further away from the rear camera, for instance - this is the same shrunken down OmniBalance design we fell for in January. </p> <p>Like the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/sony-xperia-z1-compact/review">Z1 Compact</a>&nbsp;it&#39;s waterproof, with the same newly improved dust resistance as the larger Z3 - that&#39;s IP65 and IP68 certified. But like the Z1 and Z2, neither Xperia sacrifices any style to practicalities.&nbsp;</p> <p>Plus, while we&#39;ve moaned in the past about the ergonomics of Sony&#39;s smartphone builds, this time round both the Z3 and Z3 Compact are easier to hold.&nbsp; Both get nylon caps on their corners (to help prevent smashes) and there are so many buttons, pogo pins and port flaps that there isn&#39;t much room for untouched edges to run your fingers along anyway.&nbsp;</p> <p>The bezels are still a little on the roomy side, but overall it&#39;s a big improvement over Z1 Compact, with Sony somehow managing to fit a 4.6in screen into a handset that&#39;s roughly the same size as its 4.3in predecessor. It&#39;s also much slimmer - 8.7mm rather than 9.5mm - which all adds up to it looking and feeling much classier. It&#39;s still not as light as an 112g&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/iphone-5s/review">iPhone 5s</a>&nbsp;but 127g is light enough for us.&nbsp; </p><p>And last but not least, to signify this as a fun, mass-market smartphone Sony is adding bold orange and green colour options to the existing black and white versions.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/galaxy-s5-mini/samsung-galaxy-s5-mini/review">Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="And I want my corners.. Two reasons. Sony reckons the human eye finds it hard to discern the extra pixels. And it wants to save us all from having to recharge at work and in bed by virtue of a claimed two-day battery life.&nbsp;</p> <p>The slight problem here is that by sticking with a 720p resolution while making its screen bigger, Sony has effectively reduced its sharpness. So while the old Z1 Compact&#39;s 1280x720 resolution on a 4.3in display equates to&nbsp;341ppi, when stretched across 4.6 inches that falls to 320ppi. Will that difference be noticeable? We&#39;ll have to wait until we get a review model back to Stuff Towers to answer that. </p> <p>What we can say already is that when we loaded up the same image on both the Z3 and Z3 Compact, we did spot some loss of detail on the smaller unit next to the full HD screen of the bigger model.&nbsp;</p> <p>Still, while full HD would have been lovely - and would have made it one of the sharpest phones on the planet - it&#39;s still bright, with natural but appealing colours. It&#39;s also slightly bigger than the 4.5in 720p screens on the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/htc/htc-one-mini-2-hands/review">One Mini 2</a> and Galaxy S5 Mini and if you like things punchy, you can turn on Sony&#39;s X-Reality for mobile tech to boost contrast and saturation.&nbsp;</p> <p>Sony&#39;s battery strategy for the Z3 Compact extends beyond giving it fewer pixels. As well as the extra efficiency that the fast and powerful Snapdragon 801 processor brings (the Z1 Compact ran on the 800), Sony has also worked to make the display more efficient. There&#39;s no name for the tech but Sony claims that the display retains a memory of the picture onscreen, so that it doesn&#39;t need to reload it over and over again.&nbsp;</p> <p>When we tested the<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/sony-xperia-z1-compact/review"> Z1 Compact</a>&nbsp;we got a full day&#39;s use out of it.&nbsp; But Sony says that in its own tests both the Z3 and Z3 Compact make it through two days of normal usage versus 1.4 days for the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/sony/sony-xperia-z2-sirius/review">Xperia Z2</a>. The Z3 Compact has a bigger 2600mAh battery than that in the mini Z1 and in our brief play, the battery percentage on the Z3 Compact barely dropped. All of which bodes well, but we&#39;ll be putting Sony&#39;s claims to the test in our full review.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/iphone-6-what-it-needs-do-reclaim-top-spot/feature">What the iPhone 6 needs to do in order to reclaim top spot</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The Z3 (top) and its smaller Compact sibling" alt="Sony Xperia Z3 Compact hands on review " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/z3-compact-screen.png?1411011469" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Note: Using both phones together like this is a waste of money" alt="Sony Xperia Z3 Compact hands on review " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/z3-compact-top.png?1411011469" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Camera Tweaks and Hi-res Audio </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>In many ways the Z3 Compact is identical to the Z3. For starters both get the aforementioned Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which is clocked at 2.5GHz and which should make moving around homescreens, the web and menus as smooth as full-fat butter.</p> <p>Another thing they share is the camera. Now we&nbsp;didn&#39;t get much of a play with it during our hands-on time, so we&#39;ll save judgement for the full reviews. But the headlines are that it takes the superb 20.7MP sensor from the Xperia Z2, complete with&nbsp;excellent Superior Auto mode,&nbsp;and gives it a new 25mm wide-angle G lens, higher 12,800 ISO sensitivity and tweaked SteadyShot software.&nbsp; It also gets a few more social camera apps, the best being live YouTube broadcasting.&nbsp;</p> <p>In our brief experience,&nbsp;framing and AF are as fast as ever, while&nbsp;its ability to see in the dark looks especially promising.&nbsp;Frankly, we can&#39;t wait to pit it against whatever Cupertino is cooking up - with all the rumours at the moment pointing to a&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/apple/apple-iphone-6/review">4.7in iPhone 6</a>.&nbsp;</p> <p>Music is another area where it matches its bigger sibling. Xperias have long ranked alongside iDevices as our favourites for music playback, but the Z3 and Z3 Compact promise to take things up a level. Both get hi-res audio capabilities, if you can get hold of the right files, but even if you can&#39;t then they&#39;ll use Sony&#39;s own DSEE HX uprating tech to turn lowly MP3s into near hi-res audio tracks.</p> <p>Finally, there are no real differences between the handsets in terms of their Android skin. Both get the usual What&#39;s New widgets recommending content to consume and both also get the new Lifelog app - intended to work with new wearables such as the SmartWatch 3. However, this wasn&#39;t quite ready for our hands-on time with it. We&#39;ll hopefully have more on it very soon from the IFA 2014 showfloor.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>:<strong> <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/my/playstation-4/review">Long term test - Sony PS4</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The Z3 Compact&#039;s skin is identical to that on the Z3" alt="Sony Xperia Z3 Compact hands on review " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/z3-compact-homescreen.png?1411011469" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Best head down to your local hi-res audio store quick " alt="Sony Xperia Z3 Compact hands on review " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/z3-compact-audio-settings.png?1411011469" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Play PS4 games on your Z3 Compact </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Then there&#39;s the PlayStation connection.
