CES 2020: Samsung’s Ballie personal care robot sounds like a great idea

Because Bixby was not good enough

Samsung had been quite mum about its Bixby Assistant after it showed up on the Galaxy S8 smartphone several years ago. Bixby kept moving into the background and now even the dedicated button is customisable. And you would believe that Samsung was done with AI and voice assistants had it not been for its announcement at CES 2020 today. Samsung announced Ballie, a Sphero-shaped robot that will follow you, your pets or your kids around your home and keep them company. On stage at CES 2020, Ballie barely followed the Samsung exec, but going by the promotional video, it will be able to do a lot more. When it goes on sale, Ballie will connect with the rest of the IoT devices in your home and do the needful. For instance, it will summon the Roomba vacuum to get the job done incase your dog messes up your room and even send you a video recording of it. Apart from being your rolling remote at home, this small robot will also be able to help the elderly set up their new smartphones and even call for help in the case of an accident. But for now, it’s just cute.
