Rumor has it that Xiaomi’s new flagship phone will be revealed very soon, which begs the question: what will Xiaomi be revealing at their launch event tomorrow on 9 December?
According to GSM Arena, the most likely candidate to make an appearance would be a budget, 9.2in LTE-enabled tablet equipped with a 720p resolution display as well as a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor with a 1.2GHz quadcore CPU.
The device should also come with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, as revealed previously through leaked benchmark results of an unnamed Xiaomi device. As far as budget devices go, this is pretty much par for the course where hardware is concerned.
Subsequently, another leak in November saw it receive a certification from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which more or less confirmed that the tablet will support the LTE baseband. The leak also hinted at LTE FDD support, which is the more prevalent global standard.
Also according to rumours of Chinese origin, Xiaomi’s latest device should not cost more than CNY599 (approx. S$128) and is likely to wind up in retail at just CNY499 (approx. S$107). It would be a surprise however, if it does turn up here in SG at those prices. A LTE-enabled tablet for less than S$150? Sign us up now.
With these budget specs, the Mi Pad 9.2 sits below the highly successful Mi Pad 7.9 – which, like the Mi4, still hasn’t made its way over here yet. Tsk.
It’s downright impossible to keep a secret these days, and with precious few rumors about other Mi devices forthcoming, this could well be it.
