Sony Xperia Drops XZ Branding, New Flagship Render Leaked

The rebranding hints that Sony is starting back from 1

Leading up to its product showcase next week for MWC - Sony Xperia, via twitter, teased a possibility of their upcoming smartphones to have an ultra wide 21:9 aspect ratio display.

Reliable tech tipster Evan Blass recently released a render of the supposed new Xperia flagship, and has confirmed that it will have tall displays to support the teased aspect ratio. The render revealed that the phone has a purple rear casing with a triple camera setup, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is unclear if the new flagship will have a notch for its in-display front facing camera and speaker. Blass also noted that the flagship might be powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor, and will be called the Xperia 1 - thus dropping the XZ naming scheme altogether.

Stay tuned as we'll be expecting more features and specification details of the Xperia 1 when Sony's press conference lands next week on February 25.
