The Redmi Note 7 recently launched in India with two variants - The Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro, and will be heading to China with something more on March 18th. Besides the official date, Redmi General manager Lu Weibing has also teased that the new device will carry some “more surprises” with no further details or hints of any kind given.
As for the units launched in India, it’s virtually the same for both devices design-wise - sporting a new ‘Aura Design’ with a 6.3-inch Full HD display and a U-shaped drop notch. The phones also comes with 2.5D curved glass for the front and back which are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The internal specification are what separates the Pro from the non-Pro. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is powered by the powerful Snapdragon 675 chipset with a further two options for RAM and storage - 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. The Redmi Note 7, on the other hand, is running on the Snapdragon 660 chipset with less impressive RAM and storage options - 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
For the camera department, the Redmi Note 7 Pro features a dual camera setup with Sony’s 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor, while the selfie camera is 13-megapixels. The Redmi Note 7 features only a 12-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual rear camera setup, however still has the 13-megapixel selfie camera of the Pro.
Both the Pro and Non-Pro carry a large 4000mAh battery and it’s charged through USB-C - love to see USB-C in more mid-range phones. The USB-C is also a first for Redmi phones so good for them too.
Given what we know about the Redmi Note 7 Pro now, what could possibly be the “more surprises” for the China version? A common one could be a higher end variant, possibly with 8GB RAM and even 256GB storage. Perhaps in-display fingerprint sensor since the units launched in India had rear fingerprint sensors. There could be something more superficial like a special design for it. Whatever it is, we will wait in anticipation for the surprise.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro is priced at INR13,999 / approx. MYR805 for the 4GB + 64GB ROM and INR16,999 / approx. MYR977 for the 6GB + 128GB ROM. The Redmi Note 7 is priced at INR9,999 / approx. MYR575 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and INR11,999 / approx. MYR690 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM.
