You might not have heard of Oppo, but the Chinese smartphone manufactuer is nothing if not innovative.

The Oppo Find 5 hit the shelves with a 5in 1080p IPS display before the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One. And now Oppo's revealed the Oppo N1 – a 5.9in phablet with a swivelling 13MP camera.

Let's Twist Again

Oppo N1

Yup, that's right – you can take 13MP selfies with the N1's f/2.0 snapper, which rotates through 206 degrees and packs a dual-mode LED flash that adjusts depending on which way the camera's facing. You can also set the exposure time manually, up to eight seconds. Perfect for Instagram.

Round the back of its aluminium frame, the N1 features an O-Touch panel – a 12cm square PS Vita-style trackpad that can be used to scroll through web pages, open apps and take photos.

As well as its standout features, the N1 also packs a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 3610mAh battery. Internal storage options include 16GB and 32GB, expandable by microSD. The only downside? It doesn't feature LTE support, a bit remiss on a flagship phone.

The Colour and the Shape

The N1 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, skinned with Oppo's new ColourOS operating system – which includes a live weather theme that interacts with your app icons. The N1 will also let you switch over to CyanogenMod should you prefer.

UPDATE The Oppo N1 will hit Oppo Style and other outlets in the US and Europe on 10 December, priced at US$600 in the US and €450 (£370) in Europe. Could the N1 give the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 a run for its money? Check back for our full review.
