Nokia Lumia 930: the mighty Icon has arrived in Malaysia

UPDATED 30/06: The most talented Lumia yet is available from July for RM1999
Nokia Lumia 930: the mighty Lumia Icon is coming to the UK

We really like the Nokia Lumia Icon smartphone. In fact, our main complaint with the best Windows Phone yet was that we couldn't get our hands on it, as it's a US-only device.

But very soon, it'll be available over here too. Launched at Microsoft's BUILD conference in San Francisco, the Nokia Lumia 930 is an Icon by another name, and it looks every bit as good as the original.

The Lumia 930 will be one of the first handsets available that runs Windows Phone 8.1, Cortana voice control, customisable Live Tile wallpaper and all.

And it should run speedily. Inside the handset is a 2.2GHz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which is only slightly outclassed by the Snapdragon 801s and 805s you'll find inside the HTC One (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5. It's backed up by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of (sadly non-expandable) storage.

The 930's screen is a 5-inch, 1080p LCD with a resolution of 441ppi - only the 2K screen-equipped Oppo Find 7 tops it for now. It's covered with Gorilla Glass 3 and reportedly works even if you have gloves on. Inside is a 2420mAh battery, which is compatible with the Qi wireless charging standard.

As with many Lumias, a point of difference for the 930 is its 20MP PureView camera. It's equipped with Zeiss optics and optical image stabilisation (rather than the inferior electronic kind) to alleviate hand shake. Unlike most Lumias, the 930 has a solid aluminium frame sandwiched by two colourful slabs of polycarbonate. We weren't completely taken with this styling when we tested the Icon - it's a chunky beast - but it certainly feels built to last.

An Icon by any other name...

Eagle-eyed readers will see that, yep, the Lumia 930 is basically a Lumia Icon. We have a review of that device over here. The only real difference is the lack of Verizon branding.
