Ever wondered what would happen if Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four? Or if Loki had the hammer of Thor instead of Thor himself? Some Marvel comics have covered these "what if" stories, and now they're getting an animated series on the upcoming streaming service Disney+
According to Slashfilm, Marvel Studios will be producing a new television series for the Disney+ based on the popular What If comic book series. The new animated show will be overseen by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, but the stories will not be canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This animated anthology series will provide stories that explore how the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have unfolded if key moments in its history had not occurred as they did in canon. For example, one of the episodes will adapt What If? Vol.1 #47, which explored the idea of “What if Loki had found the hammer of Thor?”
This is also why the series will not be considered part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe stories, but could potentially have some of the main actors from the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe movies reprise their roles in the animated series.
As this will be animated, the time commitment for voice acting is a whole lot less than for live-action productions, which means we may get to see some of the biggest Marvel talent from the MCU. The series would function as an anthology, just like the comic book series, with each episode tackling a different premise.
If you're a fan of the comics, this is an exciting development for Marvel under Disney!
