With Huawei looking to develop their own OS for their phones after Google had cut ties with them, it became a natural course of action for them to register for a trademark under “Huawei Hongmeng” at China’s Trademark Office.
We initially thought that “Hongmeng” would be the official name of the proprietary OS and will be used for Huawei’s domestic and global market.
In the latest news report by Android Authority however, the Chinese smartphone giant has applied for a new name on 24th May 2019 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) called “Huawei ARK OS.” The name appears to fall in line with the company’s naming lineup of Huawei ARK Compiler, which is self-developed application compiler and system performance booster.
We can expect the OS to launch domestically in China later this year and globally in early 2020.
What do you think of the new name for Huawei’s self-developed OS? Will this be the first of many OS being developed as the Trade War between USA and China escalate?
