HTC’s got a new flagship smartphone coming, and it may be codenamed “Eye”

Here’s one more to add to the long list of HTC rumours – the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer is said to be working on a new smartphone, codenamed “Eye” and you could be getting a glimpse of it on 8 October.

According to the prominent leaker that first outed the information, @upleaks, the upcoming smartphone will boast a 5.2in display, with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. This means that (if rumours end up being true) it will showcase a pixel density of 423ppi.

It’s also said to house a ‘S810” – referring to a Snapdragon 801 chipset – which the HTC One (M8) and Butterfly 2 already run on, in addition to being paired with a quad-core Krait 400 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. Other than these two hints, the tipster didn’t divulge anything else about the smartphone.

This or that?

Industry watchers have predicted that this new mobile phone will be made official on 8 October in New York, where a HTC “double exposure” event’s been scheduled. Official invites have gone out showing just two women taking a selfie with a smartphone, so the “Eye” could be just what HTCs got in store for us.

Other rumours have indicated at the HTC One (M9) with an improved front-facing snapper with photography centric capabilities, one last Nexus tablet with an 8MP camera, a smartwatch that “stands out from the crowd”, and even a GoPro-like action camera.

We’ll be live at the event to debunk the rumours, so keep your eyes fixed on this space in the lead-up to it, and on the actual day itself.
