Farewell Apple iPhone 5c, it was nice knowing you

Word’s out that the i-device maker will halt its production next year
You might soon be saying goodbye to the iPhone 5C

We can’t deny the fact that almost everyone wants an iPhone – be it the larger iPhone 6 Plus, the smaller brother, the iPhone 6, or the cheapest alternative, the iPhone 5c.

If it’s the iPhone 5c you’re after, you should probably get your hands on it soon because the device’s days are numbered. A report from Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times has suggested that the lower-cost option won’t be in production in the coming months.

The report went on to add that Apple will halt its production with suppliers, Wistron and Foxconn sometime in “mid 2015”, meaning that sales of the unit might eventually be discontinued.

However, there was no indication in the report as to why Apple is making this move. Although, some sources are speculating that it is a move to streamline its iPhone range, since that’s the only newer handset to not feature a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Other sources indicate that it might have something to do with the iPhone 5c’s dwindling sales – in an earnings call sometime in January this year, Apple revealed that the iPhone 5c’s sales was “lower than expected” as a result of the iPhone 5s’ sales surpassing its projections.

And now that the newer iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have been released, people will be more likely to purchase the iPhone 5s instead of the iPhone 5c if they wanted a cost effective Apple device.

There might be some truth to this claim too. The leak comes off the back of a report by KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who mentioned that the smartphone, along with the iPhone 4s, would not be made after late 2015.
