If you're in the market for a Chromebook then Acer has brought in three new Chromebooks as well as two Chromeboxes.
Acer's new range will cater to a diverse market, with one targeted at students and one for business users.
For the general Chromebook user, there's the Chromebook R 11 C738T. It offers a dual-torque hinge for a more stable and secure device, and is a convertible machine that can be switched between laptop, tablet, pad and tent modes.
It is light at 1.25kg and is only 19.2mm thick, while running on an Intel Celeron N3160, with a solid price of RM1499.
For students there is the Chromebook 11 N7 C731 which is a more rugged unit - it can withstand 60kg downward pressure and drops from heights of up to 122cm. It uses the Celeron N3060 processor, with two variants: the C7UZ with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage and the C32C model with 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, priced at RM999 and RM1099 respectively.
For all that it still just weighs 1.35kg, and is 22mm thin.
For business users there is the Chromebook 14 CP5-471. With a cover encased in Gorilla Glass 3 it can sustain a drop from a height up to 45cm, and withstand a maximum 330ml of liquid spillage. Besides being routine accident-proof, it fits a 14in display within a 13in chassis, as well as a claimed 12-hour battery life. There is more power too, thanks to the Intel i5-6200U processor with 8GB of RAM. For more peace of mind, there is also a three-year onsite warranty. It's a little pricier at RM2199 but much cheaper compared to, say, a Panasonic Toughbook.
As for the Chromeboxes, they're pretty much the desktop equivalents of Chromebooks. Acer offers both the CX12 and CXV2 for the Malaysian market.
The CXV2 is optimised for videoconferencing with an Intel Core i7-5500U while the leaner CX packs a lower-spec Intel i3-500SU, 4GB of memory and a 16GB SSD. They retail for RM4599 and RM1999 respectively.
Acer is also introducing a zero per cent lease plan for Acer Chrome devices, with pricing starting from RM42 a month for a usage period of 24 months.Trade-ins of iPads and older laptops are also accepted to bring down costs.
The devices should all be retailing at select Acer retailers. For more information hit Acer on Facebook or call the Infoline at 1800-88-1288.
