The Most Hype & Strongest Flagship - realme X2 Pro versus Vivo Nex 3

We identify which phone has the best value

The realme X2 Pro has garnered much international hype even before the official launch in Malaysia. After much anticipation, the phone is finally available for pre-orders via Lazada’s Chup Dulu feature starting 5 December 2019 at 12AM, where successful bookers will receive a free realme Buds Wireless earphones, a realme Power Bank and a realme backpack.

Known for its great value, the realme X2 Pro is considered as 2019’s flagship killer for having flagship-level hardware that can rival other flagships, which are priced much higher. Speaking of rivalry, we had singled out one other flagship phone that can possibly come close to the X2 Pro in terms of general hardware, however, will it be of the same value to users?

The Vivo Nex 3 is the benchmark that we would like to compare against the realme X2 Pro as it is Vivo’s latest flagship of 2019 with almost similar specifications. However, the Vivo Nex 3 is a 5G smartphone, a feature which the realme X2 Pro will not feature when launched. Having said that, Malaysia has yet to have widespread 5G connectivity, therefore, the realme X2 Pro isn’t exactly losing out in that department as the adoption of 5G has yet to be a full-fledged norm this year.

Body and Design

Starting with the obvious, both the realme X2 Pro and Vivo Nex 3 have front and back glass panels, making the overall built feeling premium. However, the realme X2 Pro’s display is smaller at 6.5-inch with a screen-to-body ratio of 84.9% while the Vivo Nex 3 has a larger 6.89 inches display with a 93.6% screen-to-body ratio. While the Vivo Nex 3 is technically larger, the realme X2 Pro has a higher resolution at 1080 x 2400 pixels and also a higher ppi density of 402. The Vivo Nex 3 achieves a resolution at 1080 x 2256 pixels with a 363 ppi density, which is just slightly lower than the X2 Pro. The X2 Pro’s display also features the impressive 90Hz refresh rate, which is something quite noteworthy.

We’re starting to see why the realme X2 Pro would be of great value and can potentially be a flagship killer. Comparing the internal hardware, both the realme X2 Pro and the Vivo Nex 3 share the same octa-core Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855+ (7 nm) processor as well as the same Adreno 640 (700 MHz) GPU. At their highest configurations, both phones also have the same storage and memory at 256GB ROM and 12GB RAM. As for the batteries, the realme X2 Pro has a 4000 mAh non-removable unit while the Vivo Nex 3 has larger 4500 mAh battery.

Going into cameras, the realme X2 Pro comes with four cameras and dual-LED flash, while the Vivo Nex 3 has three cameras and a single-LED flash. Both phones have them positioned at the centre. The main shooter for both phones are 64MP f/1.8 wide lenses, secondly, both also have the same 13MP f/2.5 telephoto lenses. As for the third camera, which is the ultra-wide shooter, the realme X2 Pro has an 8MP f/2.2 camera while the Vivo Nex 3 has a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera. The realme X2 Pro is blessed with a fourth camera and that is a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor for bokeh effects (eg. portrait mode), which the Vivo Nex 3 doesn’t have. Lastly, the selfie camera on board the realme X2 Pro is a 16MP f/2.0 camera, which gives the phone a notch on the display while the Vivo Nex 3’s selfie camera is a motorized pop-up 16 MP, f/2.1 shooter.

Judging by all that has been mentioned above, the realme X2 Pro is without a doubt, the winner in price and affordability. The realme X2 Pro will go on sale at RM2399, comparing with the Vivo Nex 3, which is sold at RM3899, you can see that the realme X2 Pro in this case has better value-to-features. Both phones share the same processor, GPU and storage configurations (at the highest), has almost the same camera setup and yet the realme X2 Pro offers more in terms of display and an additional depth sensor for those who are fans of taking good portrait photos. No wonder the X2 Pro has received much recognition for being a flagship killer while flaunting its affordability.
