From Star Wars to Nintendo, Uniqlo has offered awesome T-shirts for true geeks and gamers.
It’s latest Nintendo collab offers threads inspired by the gaming giant’s legendary games, from Super Mario to Pokémon. But this isn’t the first time Uniqlo jumped head first into geek culture. Here’s a look at the cool geek inspired tees Uniqlo has offered since it first opened its doors here in 2010.
UTGP 2017 Nintendo
Every year, Uniqlo holds a worldwide UTGP T-shirt design contest, inviting one and all to send in their own ideas for tees. This year, Nintendo was the topic of 16,000 entries from around the world. The winning designs were chosen by Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and the Nintendo team, with a Super Mario all-over graphic taking the top prize.
Nintendo games featured this year included Super Mario himself, Pokémon, Star Fox, Pikmin, Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Metroid and Donkey Kong.
UTGP 2015 Star Wars
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens heading to cinemas, UTGP 2015 saw the intergalactic movie as the topic of choice for 5218 prospective T-shirt designers. Judges included cartoonist Jeffrey Brown, UT creative director NIGO, Lucasfilm executive creative director Doug Chiang, Star Wars Rebels art director Kilian Plunkett and evil Sith Lord Darth Vader himself.
Designs spanned the entire Star Wars universe, featuring popular phrases (I am your father!) and characters like Darth Vader, Master Yoda, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2. The winning design featured the fateful encounter in Mos Eisley from Episode IV.
