GameStart2014 was a beast of an event. So awesome, we were trying our best to do it justice through our words.
The gaming convention has assailed all fears of the lackluster performance of past events. Fact: over the weekend, it was overflowing with 12,000 gaming enthusiasts over two days of excitement.
Event highlights were streamed live on Twitch, scoring over 9000 concurrent viewers across the globe. Even a couple of zombies attended. If you weren’t there over the weekend, you should be sorry. Here’s what you missed.
Games, games and more games!
It was all about the games. Clambering for bragging rights on being the first few to get their hands on unreleased titles, gamers poured over Evolve, The Order 1886, Bloodborne, Dead Island 2 and Guilty Gear Xrd.
The producer demo session line-up was beyond impressive with Junichi Yoshizawa (Freedom Wars), Yosuke Futami (Sword Art Online) and Maasaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne). Komoto Daisuke (Naruto) even rocked up in the eponymous orange and black getup.
Ready, set, fight!
GameStart also served as a battleground for some action-packed competitions, namely the FIFA 15 Champions Cup, Capcom Pro Tour Asia Finals and Cosplay Competition.
The Ultra Street Fighter IV Omega showcase boasted not only an appearance by Yoshinori Ono himself, but also a battle between home-grown RZR Xian against MCZ Daigo Umehara in a combo-packed match. Brave members of the audience also got a chance to challenge MCZ Daigo to a fight for a shot at winning a PS4.
Deadpool (Marvel vs Capcom - Rayray Cosplay), Alice (Alice: The Madeness Returns - Ruik0) and Dragon Knight (DotA 2 - Xen) stormed the stage at the Cosplay Competition and stole the show. Yuegene Fay and Yasemin Arslan also held meet & greet sessions with their fans.
Back to the past
Versus City’s Retro DNA section was a blast from the past with everything from cabinets to consoles to timeless titles. Gamers got to reminisce and relive the classics that they grew up with like Bomber Man, Metal Slug, Twinkle Star Sprites, King of Fighters and Mario Kart.
Overflowing with nostalgic goodness, the section also had the Famicom, Sega Megadrive, Super Nintendo and many others set up for playing. Thanks to Versus City, old-school gaming lives on.
See you again, GameStart!
It’s apparent that all your base are belong to GameStart, with showcases and setups ranging from heavy-hitters like Playstation, Bandai Namco and Blizzard to indie industry players like Inzen Studio, Kinetiquettes and Witching Hour Studios to name a few.
