Millennials, Maruti Suzuki says the new Ignis should be your next ride

Plenty of safety kit, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an auto? Neat!

Please keep down that cup of single-origin coffee and pause that indie film - Maruti Suzuki says it has a car that’s just right for you.

No, it doesn’t come with a membership to a yoga camp. And no, you won’t find tickets to SXSW in the glovebox. Instead, Maruti’s packed the Ignis with features you should love.

So what is the Ignis? Maruti calls it ‘India’s first premium urban compact vehicle for millennials’. And if you’ll just stop sniggering, it does look like quite a decent package.

You get SUV-ish looks with LED projector headlamps and DRLs. And keeping in tune with the ‘millennial’ theme, you can even customise it with a choice of roof wraps and interior highlights. But like we were saying, the Ignis is more than just a pretty face (yeah, it’s got as much substance as that bowl of organic quinoa  you had for breakfast).

The basics

First up, Maruti’s done a commendable job on the safety front - you get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat fittings and a design made to minimise injuries to pedestrians in the unfortunate event of an accident. Then, you get a choice between 1.2l petrol and 1.3l diesel engines. Even better, Maruti Suzuki decided to offer an automatic transmission option with both engines.

But we have a feeling you’ll like this bit more. Pick the right variant and you get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and a floating tablet-style infotainment display.

The Ignis will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa showrooms. Prices? Well, the petrol variants start at ₹4.59 lakh, going up to 6.69 lakh, while the diesel variants cost between ₹6.39 lakh and ₹7.80 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
