AR Rahman to move music beyond stereo

99 Songs soundtrack to be released in Dolby Atmos surround sound

A first of many kinds, 99 Songs is AR Rahman’s debut as a producer-writer of a feature length movie and is also the first Bollywood OST to be released in the Dolby Atmos music format. A product of Jio Studios and Sony Music, the 15-track album will release in three languages – Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Dolby Atmos, for the uninitiated, is an immersive sound format that allows sound designers and engineers to place sound as objects around the sound field, giving you an option to have overhead, height, back and side surround speakers. The delivery method is still undecided but we suspect that since Amazon Studio is the first smart speaker to support Dolby Atmos, an announcement on partnership with Amazon Music could be imminent.
