Our pick of the best that the streaming services have to offer. [Sep 10 2021]

Today being Ganesh Chaturti, it is a long weekend for many, which means more time to binge watch our favourite movies and shows.

We have quite a few new entrants into the OTT library starting with a show on one of the darkest nights in Mumbai’s history. Speaking of dark, our beloved satan is returning for one last time in season 6 of Lucifer. We don’t want you to waste a second wondering where to start or what to watch. So here’s a handy guide on the best new shows or movies to catch up this weekend across popular OTT streaming platforms.

Amazon Prime Video

Mumbai Diaries 26/11

A medical drama web series set during one of the darkest chapters in Mumbai’s history should go right up on the must-watch list. We get an insight into the contribution of the first responders during the fateful night of November 26, 2008, and the toll it took on their lives. The series stars Konkona Sensharma and Mohit Raina among others.

Disney+ Hotstar

Bhoot Police

From a dark space to another dark topic that gets a comedic spin. Bhoot Police may sound as if it’s inspired by RIPD, but thankfully there’s no connection. The horror-comedy starring Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam is about fellow ghostbusters warding off evil spirits and all the misadventures in their journey.

Lucifer (season 6)

The words beloved and satan don’t usually go in one sentence, but that’s what Tom Ellis’ Lucifer has done to us. The popular show is back for one last time, and season six will see Ellis and Lauren German venturing into an unprecedented territory as they gear up to say goodbye to their fans.

Apple TV+

Come From Away

As the name suggests, this is the filmed version of the award-winning Broadway musical Come From Away. The story is about 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander as flights in the US are grounded post the September 11, 2001 terror attack. The live musical was filmed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City at a special staging for 9/11 survivors and front-line workers.

It’s difficult to resist a thriller that has the likes of Richa Chadha and Ronit Roy in lead roles. Candy, streaming on VOOT, is a murder mystery based in the fictional town of Rudrakund, and has everything from suspense, fear, politics, mystery and more.

This six-part police procedural drama series revolves around the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler, and a death onboard submarine HMS Vigil. Written by Bafta-nominated Tom Edge, it stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin, Compston, and Paterson Joseph in lead roles.

This Tamil sci-fi comedy revolves around the topic of time travel. The story is about a man who is frustrated with his life, and gets an opportunity to travel back in time to stop his marriage. What follows is madness, and a series of misadventures. Dikkiloona is the directorial venture of Karthik Yogi, and stars Santhanam, Anagha, and even Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
