Star Wars joins the Avengers, Tron, and Pixar's Inside Out in Disney Infinity 3.0

Disney’s massive media franchises converge in another toy-centric game sequel

Disney Infinity 3.0

Confirming last week’s product shot leak, Disney Infinity 3.0 was announced today - and it’ll indeed be the first entry in the toy-based video game series to incorporate Star Wars, with a wealth of characters and a few different scenarios.

Infinity will put its sleek, cartoon-like spin on the legendary sci-fi franchise, bringing characters from all around the universe - the original trilogy, prequel films, the new sequels, and even animated shows - together in both the story-centric playsets and open-ended, create-your-own-fun Toy Box mode.

Twilight of the Republic is the set that comes with the starter kit, and it stars Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano in a new adventure set during the prequel timeline. Rise Against the Empire, meanwhile, is set during the original trilogy timeline, and a third set will be based on this December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And all characters will work across all sets, apparently.

But that’s not all, naturally. Disney Infinity 3.0 will also build up the Disney and Marvel sides of the franchise, with a new playset based on Pixar’s Inside Out with all five “emotion” characters (Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust) as playable figurines.

And there’s Tron! Figurines based on Sam Flynn and Quorra are coming. Disney mainstays like Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, and Olaf from Frozen will also join the fray.

And a new Marvel playset will bring characters from Avengers: Age of Ultron, including Hulkbuster Iron Man and Ultron himself. Infinity 3.0 will deliver Toy Box Expansion Games, as well, that let you use all characters from all editions together. Kart-racing and action-adventure experiences are promised in the multiplayer-centric modes.

The starter kit will be a little cheaper, too, albeit with one less figurine than previous sets: it’ll sell for US$65 (about ₹4100). Furthermore, the Power Discs will sell in marked packages this time around, instead of blind, random packs. Infinity 3.0 faces even more competition this fall, thanks to the impending release of Lego Dimensions, but it’s hard to beat the combination of Star Wars, The Avengers, Pixar, and Frozen.

Disney Infinity 3.0 comes out this fall for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
