Ford unleashes the legendary Mustang in India

Muscle car lovers across the country swoon

It’s hard to compose oneself when one of the most iconic cars of the world is launched in your country but we’ll try anyway.

The darling of muscle car fans since 1964, the Ford Mustang is finally here in India. Unveiled ahead of the Auto Expo in Delhi, the Mustang will go on sale in the second quarter of 2016 and we can’t wait. Running your hands along the side of one would make us feel like Nic Cage in Gone In 60 Seconds before he stole that Shelby GT 500.

The new Mustang has been tweaked inside-out for the discerning Indian petrolhead but the design retains the angry serpent look courtesy the long sculpted hood and the short rear deck. It has a wider stance than before due to a reduced height and wide rear fenders. Think of it as a sawed-off shotgun that you can drive.

Inside you’ll be treated to an aviation inspired cockpit- large HD display and plenty of knobs and switches for you to play around with. The lovely SYNC system we played around with in California will make an appearance in the Indian edition- it’s essentially an in-car entertainment system that is controlled entirely by your voice. Tony Stark stuff.

Selectable Drive Modes will allow you to toggle between normal, snow/wet, sport and track modes so you can chart your own road in India when the traffic gets unbearable.

Speaking of driving, what’s under the hood? We thought you’d never ask. A throaty 5.0 litre V8 that is as powerful as it’s loud. The sound will wake your elderly half-deaf neighbours and their cute daughter while the 420 horsepower and 529Nm of torque will ensure your name echoes in the halls of Valhalla for all eternity.

We’ll be tearing up the tarmac with one soon enough so check back for the full review.
