HUAWEI Film Awards in Malaysia Now Open For Entries

Have what it takes (including a HUAWEI smartphone?), make your mark!

The inaugural HUAWEI Film Awards in Malaysia is now open for entries and filmmakers can submit short films (entries) until 11:59PM on 25 February 2019. It is an Asia Pacific-wide campaign.

As this contest is organized by HUAWEI, all entries must be filmed entirely using HUAWEI smartphone. There are two options for the entries:

1. Long-form, 5-10 minutes long video following the theme of "Empowering Your Possibilities".

2. Short-form, less than 5 minutes of any storytelling of your choice in video.

The winners of the HUAWEI Film Awards will be announced on 6 March 2020.

In the announcement of the HUAWEI Film Awards at GSC Pavilion, local filmmakers Jess Teong, Tuan Faisal, Nik Amir, Kroll Azry and Gavin Yap screened their individual short films that are produced using the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro - showing that it's possible to create films using only smartphones.

The judging panel for the awards, however, will feature 4 other prominent film directors, namely Adele Lim, Chris Humphrey, Prabda Yoon, and Rajay Singh, as well as Alex Lin, President of HUAWEI APAC Consumer Business Group.

The winner of the APAC Best Film at HUAWEI Film Awards will walk away with a grand prize of USD20,000. Other recognitions in the line-up of awards include APAC Best Director, APAC Best Cinematography, APAC Best Actor (Male or Female), and Country Level Best Film.

Winners of all categories will receive a trophy and certificate. The winner of Country Level Best Film in Malaysia will also walk away with a HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro.
