Even if you’re not the most skillful esports player, great equipment does make the whole experience that much better. That could come in the form of professional mouse and keyboards, controllers, monitors, and so much more. One thing that people who have just started out in competitive gaming tend to do is cheap out on  audio equipment.Plantronics is planning to change that by making their headphones to be one of the first things you should get if you’re thinking of diving into esports.

Say hello to the Plantronics RIG 500 Pro which features a metal frame, 50 mm drivers, and Dolby Atmos integration. The RIG series is Plantronics’ esports focused line of headphones, having a whole bunch of headphones for all gamers across PC, Xbox One, and PS4. While there are multiple models that cater to each console’s specifications, the RIG 500 Pro was made to work across every platform.

The headphones comes with a number of great quality of life features, from the built mic that can be turned on and off easily, as well as provide a clear enough transmission when playing with friends online. The aforementioned super sturdy metal frame does give the RIG 500 Pro a more premium and solid feel to it. Volume controls are just within arm’s reach and utilises a quick and easy slider.

One of the biggest draws of these headphones is with the Dolby Atmos integration, providing cinema quality surround sound right to your ears. It also really brings an immersive sound experience that is sure to help you up your game. That said, it can only be fully enjoyed by turning on the Dolby Atmos companion app, which is only available for Xbox One and PC. PS4 players don’t get to experience the full Atmos integration since there’s no accompanying app for the system. The app comes in the form of a code that can be redeemed and downloaded on Microsoft systems, so if you have it on the Xbox, you’ll also be able to download it on Windows 10.

Though once you do have it all set up, the RIG 500 definitely does not disappoint. The spacious sound from the Dolby Atmos makes open-world games like Grand Theft Auto or Far Cry 5 really helps transport you into the game world. The excellent mic as well proves useful in team based games like Apex Legends or Overwatch, especially since all you have to do is lift the mic up or down to mute it. The headphones could be a little more snug though.

Overall, if you are an Xbox and PC gamer and you play different games between the two systems, then the Plantronics RIG 500 Pro is perfect for you. If you’re a PS4 player, then you’ll have an above average headphones, without being able to experience its full capabilities.
