After the leaks and officially released details were put onto the internet, Xiaomi has fully announced their first flagship for 2019 - The Mi 9. This announcement comes after just eight months from the launch of its predecessor, the Mi 8, but the upgraded internals and sleek new look tells the full story. What’s more impressive than the specifications is the base pricing that Xiaomi has decided to put this high-end smartphone - USD445 or approximately MYR1,815, which I assume will be an incredibly competitive price point among the new flagships coming soon.
The Mi 9 has a gradient pattern for its back that reflects shades of blue when light is shone on it - similar to the designs seen in Huawei or Honor phones but this does let it differentiate itself from the previous Mi 8. The Mi 9 will be available in violet, blue and black - subject to local availability, of course.
Xiaomi previously reveal the use of a Samsung AMOLED display panel, but now we know it comes at 6.39 inches with a Full HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch. The display modes featured such as Reading Mode 2.0 and Sunlight Mode 2.0 still applies as well. Additionally, the display is layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and offers in-display fingerprint scanner. For the cameras, the Mi 9 will be sporting a triple camera setup for the rear - 48MP f/1.75 + 16MP wide-angle lens + 12MP telephoto lens. The selfie camera is just as impressive with a 20MP camera that supports HDR. if these camera specs don’t convince you, maybe the DxOMark’s overall score for the Mi 9 is a whopping 107 which surpasses other flagships like the Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
The battery is a tad modest for flagships at 3300mAh, but it does offer wireless charging upto 20W and USB-C charging at 27W.
Once more, the base price for the Mi 9 is approximately MYR1,815 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will be USD490 or approximately MYR1,995. Another option comes with the transparent back cover that has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, priced at USD600 or approximately MYR2,445.
