The Surface Book 2 is Microsoft’s most powerful 2-in-1 convertible laptop in their lineup - with specifications that go up to the 8th-gen Intel i7 processor along with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce 1050 graphics card. However, at launch, the base model started out with the 7th-gen i5 without the discrete GPU, and the base model is what we’re talking about today.
Microsoft has quietly refreshed that base model with an 8th-gen Intel i5 - this specific model also comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. While the processor is the only change, this actually brings a significant increase in performance. According to The Verge, this upgrade was rumored earlier in March 2019 - this pretty much verifies that rumor.
This upgraded version will carry a USD1,499 price tag (approx. MYR6,110), and the 7th-gen model has received price drop to USD1,299 (approx. MYR5,295). This upgrade still isn’t seen on Microsoft Malaysia website, but if it does we’ll be sure to update you on it. As a final note, Microsoft will be having their Surface event on April 17th 2019 where they are expected to showcase the Surface Hub 2, which we will cover as well.
