Could this be Xiaomi's rumoured sub-RM250 phone?

Thanks to a leaky leak on Weibo, we've got more information on the fabled Xiaomi budget beast

A yet unnamed Xiaomi phone has surfaced on a China Mobile executive’s Weibo accountAll that can be seen of it is its back, but it’s decidedly Xiaomi with the all too familiar squarish camera, single LED flash, and speaker grille.

Not much else can be garnered from the photo, but the intel reveals a quad-core Lead Core CPU and a Mali T628 GPU which is purported to only support up to 720p resolution. Also expected are LTE support, a 2MP front-facing camera, as well as 8GB storage that's expandable via the microSD slot.

Given the design of the back of the phone and its specs, it looks like a possible successor to the Redmi 2 with a bump up in its rear camera specs to 13MP. So if a phone's snapper quality factors heavily in your budget device-buying, you might want to wait till this device makes its official debut.

How much will it cost?

Considering its specs, this Xiaomi phone will definitely be on the lower end of the spending scale, leading to the masses wondering if this is the mysterious US$65 (RM239) TENAA-approved Xiaomi device that first appeared online late last year.

However, given Lei Jun’s recent comments on never releasing a CNY399 (RM235) phone, it’s looking less than likely. But knowing Xiaomi’s pricing mantra, it should stay affordable if it belongs to the Redmi line.

As for that mythical sub-RM250 phone, we'll have to wait and see if it's fact or fiction.
