Bring out your inner designer with Canva

Online design platform Canva arrives in India. Now you can make all the funky Facebook posts and retro birthday cards you want!

Design’s a hard thing to get right. Don’t believe us? Just head over to any Indian government website. And when your eyes have finally stopped hurting, come back to read about Canva, an online design platform that makes good design accessible to even the novice.

Some of you might think of Australia as merely the home of scary cricket teams and even scarier spiders but there’s more to the land Down Under. For example, Canva. This online tool (also available as an iPad app) makes design easy with a drag-and-drop interface and in-built sharing options. Canva has its own database of fonts and graphical elements, and you can also upload your own design elements and photos. And what all can you make with it? Posters, wedding cards, inspirational signs, presentations, Facebook headers, graphical posts for social media… Canva also includes plenty of photo filters, so if you’ve ever wanted to gain hipster Nirvana by flooding your social networks with retro-themed posters containing a bunch of text overlaid on a cup of coffee (and a delicious looking slice of carrot cake), this is your chance. Canva is free for personal usage but for design pros and businesses, there’s also ‘Canva for Work’ with multiple user accounts and advanced features - for example, you can set up a template, share it with your colleagues, and hey presto - even the chap responsible for IRCTC can churn out impressive designs that make people smile for a change.
