iPhone 5 will be 4G, says EE*

EE (formerly Everything Everywhere, and before that Orange and T-Mobile – yeah, it's complicated) announced this morning its plans to bring 4G superfast data to 16 cities in the UK by Christmas, and 98 per cent of the population by the end of 2014.

It’s great news, and not before time, but our ears really perked up when the hardware partners were announced. The usual suspects – HTC, Samsung and Nokia – showed their faces, but there was one conspicuous absence.

“One more thing,” quipped EE CEO Olaf Swantee, “we will be announcing more devices shortly.”

And if that’s not confirmation that tomorrow’s iPhone 5 will come with 4G baked in, we’ll spend the next year using EDGE at roaming rates. Maybe.
