Steve is the super casual time-killer you should download right now
This little T-rex should look kind of familiar: it’s a tribute to one of Google Chrome’s best Easter eggs.
You know, the one where you hit the spacebar when you encounter the error page with a tiny dinosaur on it? This is the iOS version of that.
Steve, the tireless dino, runs from left to right and your job is to tap to help him jump over obstacles. Don’t knock its simplicity: you can get really competitive with yourself trying to beat your previous high score.
It’s designed for those moments on the commute, when you have to keep your balance but want to distract yourself from the soul-crushing regularity of the daily routine.
Easy to play, sure, but it’s even easier to get to – it runs in your iPhone’s notification center.
Download it here and add it to your notification center with a swipe down from the top of your screen. Scroll to the bottom, tap Edit, and look for the Steve widget. Hit the ‘+’ sign next to it and you’re good to go.
From then on, all you have to do to start tapping your way to a new high score is swipe down from the top of your iPhone and Tap to Play.
You can even unlock other characters, like Zvi the Nyan Cat and the Ninja Turtles, for some reason.
Have fun and try not to slip into an existential crisis when you realise that Steve’s futile pursuit of the finish line parallels your own life.
