Icon – Alfa Romeo Disco Volante 2012

Looks out of this world.
Well, it would – "Disco Volante" is Italian for "flying saucer," a suitable name for the outlandish 1952 Alfa Romeo that this rather lovely concept car pays homage to.

Concept car? Bah, can't you show me something that actually exists?
The Disco Volante is no unidentified flying object, it's very real – coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera is building a (very) limited number of the cars.

Excellent – I'll take two.
Good luck with that – the Disco Volante will set you back a pretty penny. Mind you, that's not surprising, considering that it's based on the 8C Competizione supercar – which packs a 443bhp, 4.7l V8 – and adds hand-beaten aluminium panels with carbon fibre elements, double-wishbone suspension and ventilated brakes.
