Valve Steam Box gaming PC incoming

Valve Steam Box console

PC gaming gurus Valve have been playing coy about whether or not they're planning to create a games console to compete with the Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 – launching the living-room focused Big Picture mode for Steam, then playtesting prototype hardware while carefully avoiding any mention of what that hardware is.

Now Valve co-founder Gabe Newell appears to have let the cat out of the bag, revealing that Valve expects to see gaming PCs for the living room launching in 2013 – and that Valve will be creating its own PC package.

That suggests that any "Steam Box" would likely be a certification for manufacturers, with PCs that meet a set of minimum specs launching with Steam preloaded. Valve will be releasing its own hardware – "We'll do it but we also think other people will as well," says Newell, who adds that "our hardware will be a very controlled environment. If you want more flexibility, you can always buy a more general purpose PC."

Dedicated gaming PCs for the living room with a console-like interface and the ability to upgrade their hardware – could Steam Box be the death of the games console as we know it?

I just got paid $6784 working off my laptop this month. And if you think that's cool, my divorced friend has twin toddlers and made over $9k her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less. This is what I do, bing30.com

    It's going to flop big-time!

Who want's a noisy, complicated box in their living room. Most gamers already have a PC and the casual gamer or Mum's and Dad's who want to buy a console want something that is simple to operate.

    PC's are not simple.

Besides Steam is heavily reliant on a fast broadband connection, which is a further cost. Consoles are not wholly dependant on an internet connection and thus the running cost is less expensive.
