iPhone OS 4.0 details leaked – will the Apple Tablet run on it?

It seems like the rumours that the Apple Tablet has been holding up an update to the iPhone OS could well be true, with news that iPhone OS 4.0 may be unveiled alongside the Tablet at Apple’s 27 January event.

Boy Genius Report has received info from one of its “trusty” Apple contacts that details some of the new features we can expect to see in 4.0.

Multi-touch will apparently go OS wide, and there will be a “few new ways” to multitask apps – something the iPhone has fallen behind the likes of Android.

We can also expect some graphical tweaks, an easier to naviagate, more efficient UI, and a new syncing ability for contacts and calendar applications.

The update will reportedly only be for 3G and 3G S handsets, and will make them “more like full-fledged computers” – which makes us wonder if the Tablet won’t be sharing the iPhone OS, or something very close to it.

All the above improvements would definitely benefit a tablet, so it certainly seems plausible – especially if the tablet is essentially an “iPhone on steroids” as has been suggested.
