Apple job opening points to new dock connector for iPhone 5

If you've been saving your pennies for an expensive iPhone dock, you may want to hang onto your cash for a bit longer – it looks like Apple could be ditching the venerable old 30-pin dock connector found on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Lending weight to the rumoured iPhone 5 case spotted in the wild earlier in the week – which sported a smaller dock connector – Apple's now looking for a Connector Design Engineer to work at its Cupertino headquarters.

Apple's looking for a Lead Engineer, who will be "responsible for identifying appropriate connection technology requirements for new products and follow through with selection and development of suitable interconnect products. This will often involve adaptation of existing connectors or complete new designs."

Looks like the iPhone 5 may be sporting a smaller dock connector as well as a bigger screen. Bad news for third-party peripheral manufacturers – a lot of expensive iPhone docks and mounts could become obsolete overnight.

I'm pretty sure some company would make an adapter from the supposed new connector to the current 30 pin connector haha.
