Sony and BT have banded together to offer PSP users the Go!Messenger from today, barely a month after Skype for PSP failed to launch due to substandard add-on microphones which failed to get Skype's blessing.

PSP users can keep in touch for free via VoIP voice and video calls or instant messaging when equipped with a Go!Cam and loitering near a Wi-Fi hotspot.

This is where BT comes in, with 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots in and around city centres. Good news for city slickers; bad news for PSP-loving country folk.

Sony plans to extend the Go! family with Go!Explore, a sat-nav add-on, and a Go! video download service.

Unlike the anticipated Skype add-on, Go!Messenger will work on both the Slim and Lite – and Middle-Aged and Chubby – versions of the PSP.
