Game of Thrones plotting limited IMAX run this month with remastered episodes

Want to see HBO’s fantasy epic on one of the largest screens around?

HBO’s Game of Thrones might be the biggest thing on TV right now, dominating online discussion and search numbers, and soon you’ll be able to see TV’s biggest show on film’s biggest screen.

Indeed, HBO has teamed up with IMAX to create a limited run event later this month, which will showcase the last two episodes of season four – “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” – both remastered to take advantage of the massive screen format.

And it won’t solely be a replay of last season’s concluding episodes. The viewing event will also include a new trailer for the fifth season of the acclaimed fantasy favorite, which is due to return in April. (In the meantime, might we recommend starting the episodic game series?)

“The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format,” said HBO’s chief marketing officer, Pamela Levine. “We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show, and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”

The Game of Thrones run will take place in 150 IMAX cinemas between 23-29 January, but it’s not yet clear whether it will be limited to the United States or expand out to British and other worldwide locations, as well. IMAX’s website hasn’t yet updated its schedules for that portion of the month, as of this writing.
