Slim and lights from Philips’ new Essence and LED Lux TVs

King of the illuminated TV, Philips, has hit the switch on two new high-end tellies packing some pretty sexy tech.

First up, and sneaking in unnoticed thanks to its 38mm waistline, is the Essence, specifically crafted for mouting on your wall. It packs a self-levelling mount eliminating the need for a spirit level while an integrated but removeable sound bar has you wired for sonics. A connectivity hub (like Sony’s Media Receiver but wired) keeps cables tidy and a brushed aluminium bezel dresses the Essence up to a suitably high standard. Tasty.

The next step in Philips’ grand Aurea/Ambilight plan has taken shape, too, with a stonking new LED Lux telly that uses, you guessed it, LEDs to backlight the screen. That means a contrast ratio of a whopping 2,000,000:1 with the deepest of deep blacks. You’ll also get a point on your eco-friendly scorecard, too, as LEDs are notoriously lightweight when supping ‘leccy.
