HTC Vigor with Beats by Dr Dre out October 6?

HTC's rumoured Beats-toting heavy hitter could arrive sooner than expected

Now that HTC has formed a US$300 million tag team operation with Beats Electronics, we’re eager for them to roll out their first audio-equipped smartie. Last week’s rumours suggested a smartphone codenamed Vigor would be first to bear the Beats by Dr Dre name.

Not only does it sound like one of the hottest rumoured phones on the planet right now (bar the iPhone 5), but a leaked Verizon roadmap spotted by IGN detailing potential phone release dates points to an 6th October release date. It’s likely this is a US release date rather than UK but either way, if true, HTC is due to begin its smartphone onslaught very soon.

If you need a quick spec reminder, it’s expected to pack a 4.3in 720p HD display, spritely 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Qualcomm Adreno graphics and an 8MP camera. As well as Dr Dre’s superb audio tech, it will supposedly run Gingerbread 2.3.4, plus the latest HTC Sense 3.5 UI, all neatly wrapped up in a design that bears a close resemblance to the HTC Thunderbolt, minus the kickstand. Exciting.
