Darth Vader-themed PlayStation 4 coming in multiple Star Wars bundles

If you're into Battlefront or Disney Infinity, you'll have a killer new console option this autumn

Sony keeps unveiling amazing-looking special edition PlayStation 4 consoles, which only makes those of us who already bought a PS4 gasp and grumble. But for everyone else, they’re awfully enticing.

And if buying a Sony console means aligning with the dark side of the Force, then sign us up, as Disney and Sony unveiled sharp Darth Vader-themed PlayStation 4 hardware at the D23 convention yesterday. Vader’s visage appears on the front of the console, while the Star Wars logo is repeatedly etched along the rest of the surface.

Naturally, it also comes with a themed DualShock 4 controller: this one is inspired by Vader’s suit, and has a red d-pad and circle button, along with red and blue triggers, and the Star Wars logo etching is all over the touchpad. No word yet on whether this one will release individually for anyone not looking to shell out for another PS4.

The console is being issued to commemorate the release of two big Star Wars games this autumn, so naturally, it’ll be sold in bundles with each: you can get it with EA’s multiplayer shooter reboot Star Wars Battlefront, or with Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars. The latter bundle includes an entire Infinity starter kit, which brings figurines and the Rise Against the Empire play set.

And there’s one more big perk: both consoles will include a voucher to download four ported Star Wars games from the past, headlined by Super Star Wars from the Super Nintendo. Joining that side-scrolling classic are Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Racer Revenge. It sounds like those games will be sold separately on the PlayStation Store, as well.

No word yet on pricing for these stellar-sounding bundles, but each will become available on 17 November when Star Wars Battlefront hits stores. Sony will also sell a bundle with a plain PS4, Battlefront, and the voucher for the older games, but why would you pass up the Vader version?
