Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G ups the midrange ante in the design stakes
The Reno 8 Pro 5G is a near flagship-level handset that offers a huge amount, not least a fabulous design
Oppo has revealed the Reno 8 series with the Reno 8 Pro at £599 and available in the UK and Europe.
Slotting directly into the mid-range underneath the Find X5 Pro, the Reno 8 Pro 5G is a near flagship-level handset but one with some of the hallmarks of slightly cheaper phones, such as a MediaTek platform underpinning everything (albeit a rather powerful one in the form of the Dimensity 8100 Max), no wireless charging and the lack of a telephoto snapper.
But that’s where the limitations end. Because otherwise this is a wonderfully-designed device that feels more premium than other (admittedly more expensive) mid-rangers such as the Pixel 6 and Nothing Phone 1, with absolutely stacks on offer including 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage, Oppo’s MariSilicon X neural processor from the Find X5 Pro, a fine 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display (though it’s not dynamic) and the same 80W fast charging as the OnePlus 10 Pro (though not from the even-faster OnePlus 10T).
It’s available in a wonderful glazed green as well as black, with chamfered angular edges and a flat front and back, though the camera bump rises up in a curve, similar to the higher-end Find X5 Pro and in stark contrast to the sister OnePlus 10 series with their stand out angular bumps.
The Reno 8 Pro’s primary camera is a 50MP Sony IMX766 with an optically image stabilised f/1.8 lens. That’s a fine choice, but the additional 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera will be of limited use. The selfie cam is a 32MP unit, however.
The Reno 8 Pro is available from tomorrow and you can get a free Oppo Pad Air worth £239 with it for a limited time.
