Urbanears Plattan ADV
Look properly and you’ll find a glut of wireless earphones around the £90 mark, but high street fave Urbanears has limbo’d under £70 with the Urbanears Plattan ADVs.
Funnily enough, you get a lot less mass too, as this pair is very petite. It all plays into Urbanears' very gender-neutral style. That said, the rainbow of colours the pair comes in adds a concentrated shot of personality into what is, at its core, a fairly simple headphone.
Its special move is a removable fabric headband cover, letting you sweat into the thing as much as you like before just popping it in a 30-degree wash to get rid of any unwanted whiffs. This also lets you see what the Urbanears Plattan ADVs are really made of: rather than using a band of metal to keep the headband in line, there are two flexible wires, letting you manhandle the pair as you like without it boiling down to headphone torture.
Wireless performance is solid and they’ll last up to 14 hours off a charge, or you can plug in the cable, which also has a one-button remote. Sound quality is a step above real bottom-rung stuff, with bass that’s pronounced but not a boom-fest and decent treble clarity for the price. However, the mids are low on detail and are buoyed by mid-bass ballast that makes the Plattan ADVs sound pretty messy and confused when dealing with any remotely busy arrangements. If you can afford an extra £20, you can do better.
