Halo: The Master Chief Collection release moved up, has 20GB day-one patch

Xbox One compilation is ready to go - well, it will be after that huge download

Microsoft’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection looks to remind Xbox One players why the shooter series is such a smash, and now with development complete, it’ll happen a sooner than expected.

Developer 343 Industries announced today that the compilation – which includes the four numbered Halo games from Xbox and Xbox 360, all remastered and presented in full – will now hit the UK and most of Europe on 11 November, three days earlier than originally planned.

That’s to give the game near-worldwide parity on release date, as the North American date was previously a little earlier than many others around the world. Now there will be no head start from some players while others twiddle their thumbs and curse the gaming gods.

However, no matter where you are, everyone will have to download a nearly 20GB day-one patch to start playing online. That’s in addition to the 45GB of on-disc content, so you might as well start clearing off your Xbox One hard drive now.

“Yes, the update is large, but we weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space,” writes executive producer Dan Ayoub. “This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in.”

Well, except for one part: the episodic Spartan Ops co-op content from Halo 4 won’t launch until December, but surely four cinematic campaigns and 100+ total multiplayer maps can keep you plenty busy for a month, no?
