Toshiba Regza 55X3 4K glasses-free 3D TV comes to homes

The very best in visually cutting edge TV, with 4K stereoscopic 3D, is finally coming into a home not so near you

Sure, we saw the Toshiba Regza 55X3 at IFA with all its impressive stereoscopic (glasses-free) 3D TV glory, and its 4K brilliance, but we didn’t expect it in homes so soon.

Just to clarify, because 4K is still cutting edge, that’s a resolution of 3840×2160 (compared to the current maximum of 1920×1080) – impressive but there’s a catch. If you’re watching 3D content – which up to 9 people can do using face-tracking technology instead of glasses – its maximum resolution is 1280×720.

One more caveat: it’s going on sale in Japan this December for US$11,730 (£7,600) with no word on an international release. But without any 4K content as yet, we’re happy to let Japan lead the way so we get a more refined version next year.
