MWC 2012 – LG Optimus 4X HD quad-core phone uncovered

We've managed to uncover the existence of a mystery quad-core phone by the Korean mobile giant

Stuff has uncovered evidence that LG has a quad-core phone in the works called the LG Optimus 4X HD. Not only has our digging discovered the phone codenamed LG Optimus 3X's existence, we've had our doubts removed by a source close to to the company. Although solid details are scarce at this stage, its name alone suggests a tantalising spec list.

The LG Optimus 4X will be a quad-core beast, pitting it head to head against the rumoured HTC One X and Huawei Ascend D1 Q.

We're expecting the LG Optimus 4X HD to be a Tegra 3-powered Ice Cream Sandwich phone with an 1280x720 4.7in display, hence the 'HD' in the title.

The X3's benchmark results which we reported on last week were certainly impressive, and the thought of all that power coupled with a rumoured 8MP snapper, skinny 9mm shell and 2000mAh battery make our tech senses tingle with pleasure.

We're hoping to get some hands on time with the LG Optimus 4X HD at Mobile World Congress next week, assuming it will grace us with an appearance of course. Join us in crossing our fingers, won't you?

Meanwhile, check out our 10 of the best Mobile World Congress 2012 rumours to see what else to expect in Barcelona next week.
