Stuff Gadget Awards 2011 – Olympus PEN E-P3 gets Camera of the Year

Why have a full sized shooter when you can get something that keeps up and is half the size?

As you may have noticed, the Stuff Gadget Awards 2011 were on last night, and we thought you might like to know the Olympus PEN E-P3 took Camera of the Year Award. Why, you ask? Well.

In the past, it was possible to see DSLRs as the 100-metre sprinters of the camera world – big, fast and powerful – and compact system cameras as long-distance runners: smaller, lighter, and prone to taking a while to do their thing. Then came the Micro Four Thirds PEN E-P3, and our running-related categorisation system went out the window.  Not that we mind: the first interchangeable-lens compact to truly keep up with the big boys, the E-P3 can refocus 120 times per second, which is probably more than Usain Bolt.

About

Stuff's second Tom has been writing for the magazine and website since 2006, when smartphones were only for massive nerds and you could say “Alexa” out loud without a robot answering. Over the years he’s written about everything from MP3s to NFTs, played FIFA with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and amassed a really quite impressive collection of USB sticks.

Areas of expertise
