Direct your own robot wars with FPS battle bot GEIO

Shoot to thrill

Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics decree robots should never harm a human, but make no mention of them kicking seven shades out of each other. Which is great for GEIO (from $99), a dinky droid that scoots about while getting all shooty. Battles are directed by smartphones, an app fusing a heads-up display and touchscreen controls with whatever your GEIO’s gawping at. There’s scope for (virtually) blowing other GEIOs away using custom weapons collected on the battlefield, or partaking in speed races, like a deranged robot MarioKart. In its downtime, the AI-infused ‘bot can apparently interact with you, too, and is capable of curiosity and melancholy. Just hope the little blighters don’t hit on a fourth law when feeling glum: “Ignore the first three, and finally give those hairless apes a kicking”.

About

I’m a regular contributor to Stuff magazine and Stuff.tv, covering apps, games, Apple kit, Android, Lego, retro gaming and other interesting oddities. I also pen opinion pieces when the editor lets me, getting all serious about accessibility and predicting when sentient AI smart cookware will take over the world, in a terrifying mix of Bake Off and Terminator.

Areas of expertise

Mobile apps and games, Macs, iOS and tvOS devices, Android, retro games, crowdfunding, design, how to fight off an enraged smart saucepan with a massive stick.
