The BenQ Mobiuz EX240N is a speedy but smooth gaming monitor

165Hz and AMD FreeSync for the budget-friendly 24in

BenQ Mobius EX240N hot stuff

Budget-minded PC gamers with a need for speed look well catered for by BenQ’s latest Mobiuz monitor. The 24in EX240N promises a 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms response times, along with the firm’s own take on HDR.

The 16:9 aspect ratio, 1080p resolution display uses a VA panel, with skinny bezels on the top and sides to blend into the background while you’re concentrating on what’s onscreen. BenQ promises a peak brightness of 250cd/m2 and 3000:1 contrast ratio, along with 72% NTSC colour gamut coverage. None of that is going to make creative types sit up and take notice, but should still deliver when it comes to gaming.

While it doesn’t support ‘true’ HDR, BenQ’s HDRi mode is supposed to give visuals a contrast, detail and colour boost through hardware – whether or not your games support actual high dynamic range.

AMD FreeSync Premium means adaptive refresh rates for when your GPU can’t quite deliver a consistent number of frames, and the 165Hz maximum should be high enough for twitch gamers – at least those not signed up to professional esports teams, anyway.

Connectivity is well catered for around back, with HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2 and a 3.5mm headphone port. It’s also packing a pair of 2.5W stereo speakers. The stand is both height- and tilt-adjustable.

A joystick handles all the usual OSD settings, with dedicated buttons to switch inputs and a handful of modes meant to give gamers an edge. Black eQualizer boosts darker scenes without overexposing brighter areas, Colour Vibrance ramps up how vivid scenes appear to make it easier to spot hidden enemies, and Light Tuner can give the illusion of more detail in higher contrast scenes.

The BenQ Mobiuz EX240N is on sale right now, directly from BenQ and from Amazon, with prices start from £169.
