Will the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have smart secondary displays?

Another day, another Apple rumour to make the rest of the tech world whimper. A patent made in 2009 – before the iPad even existed – shows plans to bring touch sensitive controls around the edge of the touchscreen of iOS devices and perhaps even around the back.
In the plans different segments of the secondary display could illuminate to match what is happening on the main touchscreen. We’re talking gaming controls and reading features popping up automatically. The clever thing is that this would leave more room for the video content you’re watching or the game you’re playing. Listen up developers, smart tools could be the new apps.

Apple is an innovative phone company that has a plethora of patents for technology waiting to be unleashed and used in their devices. I always look forward to the unveiling of their latest devices and more often than not, I am always amazed by their ability to make technology simple to use.
